Peter Hobden
I am a painter. I am enchanted to be a painter. I discovered painting late, after more than 20 years as a computer developer and project manager.
This is a journal of my painting as it unfolds including differents stages in the painting process from sketch to finished painting.

Pool reflection
Another one I started recently. The under painting is done with burnt sienna lightened with white or darkened with raw umber.

La Petite Rade
This painting I left fairly raw. The rich blues with the yellow/orange underpainting showing through create a strong impression.

Another vineyard
I started this on on canvas panel. I seem to feel less inhibited when not painting on canvas. Ridiculous really, but it is so. Have to figure out how to extend the freedom. I think its a question of not painting for something, some result, but just painting...
Any way here is the under painting 40 cm x 30 cm

Vineyard comparison
This is my second attempt at the same scene. I posted the start of this earlier.
Here it is as iz stands today and iI have included the previous version for comparison.
This second version is not coming any easier than the previous one, contrary to my hopes. That's life in painting, I guess. If it came easily all the time, it probably would not have the same value.
Both are the same size on stretched canvas 80 cm x 60 cm.

Promenades
Almost finished this one, just leaving it unvarnished for a day or two in case I want to change anything, though it would not be major. Want to see if I am happy with the way the colors interact. One of my favorites up till now.

2 new Self Portraits in the works
Here are two self portraits I am working on. They are both based on my own photographs. The tall one (smiling) is on mdf board and is 25 cm x 40 cm and is in acrylics.
The second one is on canvas panel 40 cm x 50 cm, The base is in acrylics, but is destined to be finished in oils as I need to get more familiar with that medium.

Old landscape
This painting which I had put on my wall, but which has never quite satisfied me is back. I am trying to get to where i am satisfied. I like the overall painting, love the scene, but ...
Here is the state of it:

Progress on self portiaits
Here is my latest self portrait from life, to show that the practice is beginning to pay off compared to my previous post
Street housefront
This one is almost finished. It is acrylic on canvas 40 cm x 30 cm. The scene is from a street near where I live.

Self-Portrait
This is a small canvas I am currently painting. It is on a 24 x 16 cm stretched canvas, and is done in acrylics, so far. I may finish it in oils, with which I am less familiar. People keep telling me "you should really try oils...", so ordered a selection of alkyd (faster drying) oils, which I have yet to try.
Off my easel
This painting is one the ones I am working on. I have put it aside for a few days while I practice (self) portraits from life to improve my live drawing.
The tentative title is "Promenade automne"
It is an acrylic on canvas 60 cm x 80 cm. Here is a detail to get an idea of the texture
